Vertical

Instagram-perfect room, global-pour list, and a pricey gotcha vibe

Vertical Barcelona is undeniably good-looking: sleek, photo-ready, and engineered for that “one glass turns into a night” energy. The wine program, on paper, is ambitious—but it leans heavily international, which feels oddly out of sync for a modern wine bar in Barcelona, where local character could be the easiest flex in the room.

What really soured it for us was the tone and the money moment. Service read snobbish rather than welcoming, and when wines were recommended, prices weren’t clearly framed—so the bill landed like a trapdoor. If you’re going to play at luxury, you can’t hide the numbers and call it “curation.”

In the end, the place feels calibrated for visitors: maximum aesthetics, maximum buzz, and a pricing strategy that assumes you won’t question it. We left feeling like we’d been managed, not hosted. Beautiful? Sure. Worth repeating? Not for us.
