La Gormanda

Looks right, reads right — but doesn’t always land

La Gormanda is the kind of place that wins you over before the first bite: a pretty, well-decorated room and a menu that’s structured with real intent. It feels thoughtful on paper—balanced options, a clear flow, and the sense that someone is trying to do “proper restaurant” without unnecessary noise.

The problem is execution. Too many dishes arrive with avoidable flaws: points not quite right, textures that don’t fully click, flavors that feel a step away from what they’re aiming for. Nothing is catastrophic, but the gaps are noticeable precisely because the concept is so well put together.

Wine doesn’t help much either. The list is short, and the selection feels of questionable taste—more limiting than curated—so it doesn’t add lift to the meal.

We really want to like La Gormanda more than we do. It has the room, the structure, the idea. What it needs is consistency on the plate (and a sharper wine point of view) to match how good it looks from the outside.
