Glug

Good cooking, short menu, service that leaves the room cold

Glug looks like the kind of place that should hum: a long counter, small plates, and that modern Barcelona promise of “casual, but serious.” And to be fair, the kitchen delivers. The product is good, the cooking is clean, and the plates land with intention—simple ideas executed with steady hands. We kept catching ourselves nodding at bites that were quietly precise.

But the story narrows fast because the menu is too short. There just aren’t many dishes to choose from, so the meal starts feeling like a corridor with few doors. Then the room loses warmth. Service, on our visit, moved at a glacial pace and carried a chilly distance, the kind that makes time feel longer than it is. When we asked for help with wine, the guidance felt thin—more pouring than steering.

With all the noise around Glug, we left thinking it’s a good place, not a revelation. The one undeniable mic-drop is the price: in Barcelona, it’s almost unbeatable.
