Bar Brutal

Hype machine, tourist trap energy, and very little joy

Bar Brutal looks the part: busy room, loud confidence, and a vibe that’s constantly telling us we’re in the “right” place. But once we actually eat and drink, the spell fades fast. The food is… fine. Not bad, not exciting—just regular plates priced like they’re running a top-tier kitchen. We don’t mind paying when something sings; here it mostly just shows up.

The bigger issue is the wine narrative. Too many glasses felt plainly mediocre, then got waved away with the line that “natural wine is like that.” Maybe. But “natural” isn’t a get-out-of-jail-free card for faults or laziness. It ends up feeling less like a point of view and more like an excuse.

And the room doesn’t help. The attitude can be insufferable, the postureo is constant, and the whole thing reads calibrated for visitors who won’t come back anyway. We left feeling managed, not hosted—and with zero reason to return.
