Ultramarinos Marín
Prime product, serious grill work — and prices that don’t add up
Ultramarinos Marín is a product-driven Spanish grill house: market seafood and top meats cooked over embers, with that classic Barcelona mix of barra energy and restaurant-level technique. When it’s good, it’s very good—clean fire cooking, precise points, and ingredients that taste like they were chosen with real intent. We can feel the craft.
The friction is the price. Even acknowledging the first-class product, the numbers can be hard to understand, and the meal starts to carry that “are we paying for the food or the idea of the food?” feeling. At that level, we want everything to be tight, including what’s in the glass.
And the wine offering doesn’t keep pace. The selection feels shallow and the guidance doesn’t elevate it, which is frustrating in a place that otherwise signals quality and care. We still respect what they do with fire and product. We just wish the pricing made more sense—and that the wine side rose to the same standard.
