Suru
Great product, great bottles — but the wine service can feel like a test
Suru is doing a lot of things right. The cooking leans modern and product-led: clean technique, strong raw materials, and plates that feel precise without getting fussy. It’s the kind of place where we relax quickly because nothing looks accidental, and the kitchen clearly knows what it’s doing.
The wine side, on paper, is a real strength too. The selection is thoughtful and exciting enough to make us want to explore, not just default to the safe choice. But the experience at the table doesn’t always match the promise. On our visit, the wine service read surprisingly cold—less “let’s find what you’ll love” and more “there’s one correct way to think.” The vibe can make you feel like if you don’t share their framework, you’re simply wrong, which is a weird mood for a place built around pleasure.
Still, step back from that friction and Suru works: solid food, strong wines, and a room that basically runs.
