Bodega Solera
Big list, good bites — but the story overwhelms the service
Bodega Solera feels like it’s trying to transport us to Jerez, right in the center of Barcelona. We get the original intention—pour lots of sherry by the glass—but the “Andalucía set design” can feel forced, like the decor is doing too much work to explain the concept. A sherry bar doesn’t need to cosplay Jerez to be convincing.
On the plate, things go better. The food is good and satisfying, though not showy—straightforward cooking that supports the drinking. The real asset is the wine list: it’s huge, and genuinely well stocked, with plenty to explore and a sense of ambition behind it.
The frustration is that the service doesn’t match the cellar. With a list this large, you need guidance, and here it’s hard to get meaningful advice—questions don’t always get answered with confidence, and recommendations feel shaky. Add a heavy layer of natural-wine and “andalusian” posture, and the experience can become tiring.
In the end, we like the idea and respect the list. We just wish the execution leaned less on costume, and more on professional wine hospitality
