Bar Mut

Gorgeous room, tired edges, zero subtlety

Bar Mut still looks like the kind of place you’d text a friend about: warm lighting, handsome wood, that old-Barcelona swagger. The problem is it’s been living off that look for too long. The room is charming, but it’s also tired—like it’s begging for a refresh while pretending it’s “timeless.”

The cooking goes big. Everything is turned up: salt, butter, sear, sauce, drama. You’ll get punchy bites, but not much subtlety, and after a few plates the intensity starts to blur into one loud note. The wine list doesn’t rescue the nuance either. It’s heavy on recognizable labels and trophy names, less on thoughtful pairings or local curiosity, so ordering can feel like brand shopping.

And the crowd has shifted. What used to feel like a local secret now reads tourist-forward: phones out, tables flipping, energy a bit transactional. It’s still a good-looking room with serious kitchen chops—just less soul, more spectacle, and a price tag that expects applause.
