GLUG

Michelin caught up with Glug this year, handing Iván García and Beatrice Casella a Bib Gourmand in the 2026 guide, and the award is hard to argue with. This remains one of the best-value propositions in the Eixample: a bar à vins where the cooking punches far above the bill, where an onion consommé with Comté ravioli or a plate of stuffed ascolana olives shows more thought than places charging triple. García's Direkte-and-Disfrutar pedigree is legible in the precision; Casella's pastry training shows up at the end. The wine list is natural-leaning, genuinely interesting, and priced like the owners want you to drink it. So why aren't we sending everyone? Because the room still greets you like a border checkpoint. A year later, the service remains the coldest thing on the menu — efficient, unsmiling, offering pours without direction and information without warmth. It is a strange, self-inflicted wound on an otherwise generous restaurant. The menu is short by design; that we can live with. The chill we can't. Glug now has the medal it deserves. What it needs is thirty seconds of eye contact.

The 2025 Review

Good cooking, short menu, service that leaves the room cold

Glug looks like the kind of place that should hum: a long counter, small plates, and that modern Barcelona promise of “casual, but serious.” And to be fair, the kitchen delivers. The product is good, the cooking is clean, and the plates land with intention—simple ideas executed with steady hands. We kept catching ourselves nodding at bites that were quietly precise. But the story narrows fast because the menu is too short. There just aren’t many dishes to choose from, so the meal starts feeling like a corridor with few doors. Then the room loses warmth. Service, on our visit, moved at a glacial pace and carried a chilly distance, the kind that makes time feel longer than it is. When we asked for help with wine, the guidance felt thin—more pouring than steering. With all the noise around Glug, we left thinking it’s a good place, not a revelation. The one undeniable mic-drop is the price: in Barcelona, it’s almost unbeatable.
