The Fish & Chips Shop
Fast, cramped, reliably great fish and chips
The Fish and Chips Shop has expanded into a small Barcelona mini-chain, and it’s earned that status the honest way: it works. Wherever you catch it, the formula is consistent—bright, functional spaces designed for quick turnover, not lingering. You don’t go for ambiance. You go because you want something hot, crisp, and dependable.
The drinks side is, frankly, forgettable. It’s the kind of setup where you don’t overthink it: a beer, maybe two, and move on. There’s no real sense of curation or care beyond the basics, and if you’re hoping for something more interesting to pair with fried food, you won’t find it here. Luckily, this is not a place that requires a wine list to justify itself.
Because the food is genuinely better than it has any right to be. The batter is properly crisp, the fish tastes clean, and the whole thing lands as comfort food with discipline—generous, satisfying, and far from the soggy stereotype. Even the sides hold up, and the result is a meal that feels like a small reward rather than a guilty compromise.
The only drawback is comfort. These are not cozy rooms: seating is tight, the vibe is “eat fast,” and the experience is built around efficiency. But for a quick, reliably delicious hit—something you can trust every time—it’s one of the safest bets in the city.
