Frequently Asked Questions

Nicky, Ryan and Angela. From New York, San Francisco, and Paris

We moved to Barcelona a little over five years ago and have learned to speak Spanish pretty fluently. Our Catalan isn’t quite there yet—but it’s getting better.

Why are we doing ‘À Table’?

When we first arrived in Barcelona, we didn’t know the city’s food scene, so we turned to the internet—restaurant guides, glossy magazines, influencers, the whole apparatus—to figure out what was supposedly worth our time.

What followed was a string of disastrous experiences, the kind that’s hard to convey without sounding exaggerated.

And then, little by little, you start to see it: the opinions of many “trusted” outlets—specialist media, journalists, influencers—are for sale. Sometimes it’s as simple as a comped lunch or dinner; sometimes it’s an envelope with a small stack of cash.

We do this to help people who are new to the city, so they don’t waste their time or their money.

We wish we’d had something like this when we arrived.

We owned restaurants and wine bars in the United States (New York, Boston and San Francisco) for more than ten years. Whatever that means.

How we rate

We visit each spot with at least two of us—ideally all three, whenever we can.

Each of us writes our own review and submits our scores independently.

Once the three write-ups are finished, we upload them to our AI app and ask it to produce a summary of our combined opinion, along with an aggregate of the scores

If the result feels right, we publish it. If it doesn’t, we tweak it

Do we update venues?

Absolutely, we never visit a venue only once before our review is available

When we return aflter review is available, we change review and scores whenever necessary

Independent reviews

We make our reservations directly or just show up at the venue. Never contact venues directly.

We always pay.

No restaurant or wine bar knows about us except if they remember about us when visiting.

We never say anything about www.barcelonatable.com nobody but the three of us know who we are

We don’t take pictures. Just order, eat, drink and pay. Full stop.
